We all know how to lose weight, we have heard everything there is to know, and how everything contradicts everything else.
I think for me at least the mindset we bring to the table is the biggest factor that determines success or failure.
Google how to lose weight and you’ll get 100 different ideas about how to do.
You only have to look at the number of diet books out there to see there are many solutions and different options.
How could you ever choose the right one?
It’s near impossible. What I bring to the table is a framework or a formula that explains how everybody is getting there current level of results.
Whether your are an athlete or someone who is incredibly unfit and unhealthy. We all use this same formula, it just the level at which we understand and have mastery in these areas that makes the difference.
Here the formula I can it my 5 ways to lose weight
Dreams + Goals + Mindest = Motivation
Motivation + Correct Diet + Exercise + Lifestlye = Your Action Plan / program
Your Program + Tracking, Changing and accountability = Results
Do this formula and you get results, it just depends which level of the game you play.
Lets take a look at each area more in depth
Dreams goals and mindest
In life most of us want have something, more energy, to be happier, fitter healthier. States of mind and a feeling of wellbeing.the good life you might say.
We want that feeling. To get that feeling we need to have goals. These are the destinations we need to set and aim for to get the sign posts that show us the way. Think of them like the roadmap.
We can’t get anywhere without first knowing the destination and then of course having the map to guide us.
Then mindest is the how we think about all this, it is the steering wheel that guides us through all the twists and turns, and when we reach a dead end we use that wheel to steer in a new direction.
Add all these together and we have what I would call motivation.
Motivation is the drive to do. It is like the engine of a car it’s the heart that makes us beat. It is what drives us to make changes and it is the thing that helps us power through the tough times.
Is there a lot learn in this area, absolutely there is, but it is learnable and it comes back to that question are you motivated like the athlete or are motivated like a couch potato.
It’s ok to be at either level. That’s not the point. The point is to make clear that you could be anywhere on that spectrum, it’s just a matter or whether you need to upgrade your programing to a newer more relevant software or in our case a new belief system.
What we’re looking to cultivate here is a strong motivation. Because this is the thing we need to be strongest because this is everything we need to drive the results we want.
The next part of the formula is what we eat, how we move and the lifestyle we lead.
Now why do we do motivation first. Because you have to have motivation before we do anything else.
Its no point rowing a boat in a river if the boat is pointed the wrong way.
Once we are able to motivate ourselves now we can take the right action, and the consistent actions to make the results we want stick.
Now on to food, next to motivation this is the most important step in the formula, because we are what we eat and you can’t out exercise a bad diet.
For us to lose weight or have the level of health we want, we need to change.
Changing eating habits is key. And is often the hardest area to master. Along with our motivation things now start to make sense and are easier to change, often there is a lot to learn here as well but often it is about doing the basics well and remaing as consistent as we can because 1 week of consistency is better than 1 day of brilliance.
Our diet needs to be a daily activity. But we need it to run in the background, on autopilot. We need to set ups a plan of foods to follow that suit or nutritional needs and of course make it easy to stick to and allow us to still have the foods we love.
Only then can we have a food approach and a way of eating that actually supports us.
Because once we have that undercontrol we can now move to lifestyle. Changing how we do things, how we spend our time, things like sleep patterns managing stress. Everything we do to support our weight loss jorurney is emcompassed by lifestyle.
And of course there is exercise, its not the be all and end all, its is a great support for those of us who need it, but for others there are other ways we can get active and still get results. And like I said before you can’t out eat a bad diet.
Most folks who join a gym exercise over and above what they think they need to get the results they are getting.
Of course what happens here is once the exercise stops with out changing any thing else, we go back to the old way, our level of health is maintainable.
Simply put you can’t out exercise a bad diet.
once we had all these things together the next thing we need to do is add testing testing and measuring and accountability. to being able to make sure what we are doing in the above areas is getting the results that move us closer to our goal f you that might be weight loss it might be more energy or just might be a feeling of being healthy happy and confident.
been able to test monitor and change our behaviour in the above areas will determine the results we get. and this explains how everybody uses this formula just on different levels. take for example the athlete he or she might do all of these areas to a very high level.
where is somebody who is sedentary and unfit will be doing these five areas at much lower level meaning lower level results.
and finally we must add action. you need to take action to make the system work. and when we take action we get a result the result be 1 of 3 things
not an improvement
it will stay the same
they are the three results we always get. so if you were to do nothing, nothing would change. if you were to do something you would get a result. an improvement not an improvement so I may be going backwards. or it’ll stay the same.
so with this information you can now alter your actions in the five key areas which are mindset motivation diet lifestyle exercise testing and accountability.
how to system does take some time to learn and it is not a quick fix however you will find that when you start to implement and follow this plan you will start to see changes. and it will explain why in the past you may have failed awww lost weight and put it back on. explain why you weren’t able to maintain a previous program whatever that may have been.
