Confused About Weight Loss? Where Do You Fit In?

As a personal trainer, the relationships and bonds I have had the pleasure of building has been a very rewarding experience.I have seen first hand insights into the challenges and battles my clients faced which they openly shared with me, gave me the opportunity to really understand what they were going through.

And it got me thinking about trust in the weight loss industry.

As I’m sure you can relate to we live in a low trust world. Particularly with weight loss and the dieting industry it is very confusing.

In fact I think this is on purpose. When you are confused It’s harder to make informed decisions period

Having  the opportunity to work with so many different people so intimately I can safely say they we are all confused. And of course it isn’t anybody’s fault. Mastering your own health and fitness I feel is one of the hardest areas of life to master.

I feel there are a few categories that people fall into in regards to weight loss.

Here are the ones I feel categorise things best.

  • The people who have no desire to lose weight ever or be healthy.
  • The people who have the desire but want the easiest option (quick fix, Fad diets)
  • The people who have the desire but focus on exercise more than anything else to lose weight (gym junkies)
  • The people who have the desire but focus on food and eating more than exercise ( weight watchers etc)
  • The people who focus on diet and exercise together but find it hard to maintain
  • The people who naturally keep a healthy weight without much stress or challenges

Now looking at this where do you think you might fit in?, for most of my clients it’s is somewhere in the exercise more than focus on eating , or the people that exercise and eat well but find it hard to stick too.

Think of it like a spectrum one end to the other. Sometimes my clients travelled through all these stages and it was only after they had the desire to lose weight and taken some action they found they needed some extra help.

What I have found the most of course is that people have the desire to lose weight and take control of their health, but they lack the knowledge to make the changes and make it stick. With my clients once I educated them on the basics and helped them unlearn all the confusing stuff they had been exposed to all their lives the results came.

And it wasn’t always weight loss. Often just feeling better, feeling more in control and feeling empowered with the knowledge they knew what they were doing of course if you had the financial means you could also have me as your mentor and coach but I know that isn’t always possible and that’s why I do what I do, try my best to educate and mentor my fans and followers to help achieve the best you can.

But getting back the the categories of people and weight loss. If everybody didn’t want a quick fix there would be no confusion. Let me explain.

Weight loss in my opinion boils down to this formula, I call it my 5 ways to lose weight.

Dreams and goals, Mindset Motivation, Correct Diet, Correct Exercise, Accountability, Testing and measuring = Results.

Master these areas and you will have the weight loss you desire. Fall down in these areas and you will have trouble achieving results and making the changes stick.

It may seem like a lot to learn, and yes there is a bit there to learn but once you know it and understand it things will become so much easier for you.

When we start a weight loss plan our goal or result is weight loss. But in fact that is a result. What we want to go to work is the thing that contribute to the result. We need to go to work on eating better, exercising correctly, getting enough rest and managing our busy lifestyle.

Then we get results.

There is no one size fits all approach to getting results, everybody and we all change at different rates.

Inside my program the clean eating plan online goes into far more depth about what to eat and creating a food plan for weight loss. I feel that food has the biggest impact and need the most attention and is often the hardest for people to overcome.

All the other areas are where the education comes in and requires you to do a bit of learning. So by creating the clean eating plan online my hope is that the food and diet side of things are taken care of leaving you the chance to focus on all the other areas.

    I’m person #2 and 3. I do exercise a lot but you can’t tell me we can put men on the moon but can’t find a healthy and quick weight loss plan. 🙂

      Yep unfortunately it doesn’t exist. Its all about getting back to basics and thinking in terms of long term lifestyle change. Its got to be sustainable and works for you.

    How about those in denial? I NEVER had a weight problem until now – mid 20s – and it’s creeping on. 🙁 I just don’t look in mirrors when I walk by. But seriously, I am working on it. A little at a time.

      That’s the way, first step is being aware. then we can take notice of things and make small steps to change out habits. I cover this and mindset in depth inside my 8 week challenge.

      It does sneak up on you. First you think, ‘a few pounds? No big deal.’ then it’s a few more then a few more. Best to catch it early.

    It’s so hard when I live with someone who fits the description of the last person on the list: those who maintain a healthy weight without even trying. The person I live with has the absolute worst eating habits of anyone I know, thrives on junk food, and barely weighs over 100 pounds. It’s so discouraging when I’m actually trying to be healthier and not seeing results.

    I think I’m the type of person to want to live a healthy lifestyle but just find it hard to maintain.

    I went to the gym for 1 1/2 months and got lazy and couldn’t maintain.

    I am eating more carbs now and that is why I have put on weight. Most of my life I stayed away from bread and pasta because it bloated me, … but now there is all the ‘gluten free’ stuff on the market, and I eat it, and it has a lot of calories! arg!

    You cleared some things up for me perfectly and I definitely benefitted from reading this article! When there are so many weight loss and health tips being shared all over the place, it’s easy to get confused and lose your balance. This helped put it in a clearer perspective!
