Why Everyone Should Take a Multivitamin, No Matter Their Diet

Over the past few months, there has been a dangerous and unproven rumor gaining ground which could result in sub optimal health and even sickness of many millions all over the world. There could be malnourished children, neurologically-damaged adults and even premature death.

The rumour? That vitamin and mineral supplementation is entirely unnecessary and worse still, a complete waste of money.

However, this is a completely unfounded claim. The truth is everyone should take a multivitamin and mineral, no matter what their diet.

Here’s all the evidence you need to see why:

  1. We don’t always eat as well as we could

Even though I’m a health-nut, there are still days where I just don’t fancy eating so much, or I’m caught short of fresh produce whilst I’m on a trip, or it’s my son’s birthday and we all eat cake. And this is perfectly ok. But it can also leave me open to nutritional gaps which I can effortlessly plug with my multivitamin and mineral.

If you’re not so careful with your diet, and eat more high-fat, high-sugar, low nutrient processed foods then you’re even more likely to need a nutritional helping hand and should really consider doing something about it.

  1. The nutrients just aren’t in our food anymore

Traditionally, our food would have been grown and raised on small farms where the crops were rotated and soil frequently ‘rested’ to preserve mineral content. This just doesn’t happen anymore- our modern intensive farming methods mean we are continually draining the barrel dry and the nutrient contents of all of our veggies is shooting down. Some nutrients have dropped by almost 37% since 1970. Shocking stuff…

  1. Some people follow special diets

Vegetarians, vegans, and those with allergies, illnesses and alternative lifestyles can find it a challenge to get all of the nutrients they need from the food they eat. For them, it’s essential to take a multivitamin and mineral to ensure they stay healthy, and this is not always through choice but often diseases like cancer, Crohn’s and lactose intolerance.

  1. Everyone has different nutritional needs

Each of us is so wonderfully unique. We look different, we act differently and we even like different things. But the differences happen on the inside too; we each need slightly different amounts of those nutrients which keep us healthy. So eating the same diet just won’t work. This is especially the case if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, still growing or elderly.

  1. There’s a difference between sufficient and optimal

It’s one thing to be getting just enough nutrients in your diet, but a whole other matter to be getting everything your body deserves. Don’t you deserve to always feel at your strongest, happiest and healthiest? Multivitamins and minerals are the ultimate in self-care and will help provide your body with everything it needs.

But don’t get me wrong. I’m not for a minute suggesting that supplements are a magic pill which will wipe away any dietary vice. But it can be a powerful insurance policy to help you stay as healthy as you can.
